The FDA is warning against eating chocolate -- not just any chocolate, but dark chocolate. You know, the healthier chocolate. What do I say? "WTF? Not happening." Apparently, the organization tested 100 different dark chocolate bars and found that over half contained traces of milk, which is highly allergenic. The FDA noted that "dark chocolate bars labeled “dairy-free” or “allergen-free” were the least likely to contain milk." Brilliant assertion.
Ok, so this has me fired up for quite a few reasons but mostly because the FDA approves food-like substances such as cheese whiz, fluff and diet coke as being healthy and safe to consume. GMO's, chemically-produced and shelf stable cheeses, "meals" like lunchables targeted at our children and fast food french fries with over 20 ingredients are safe to eat but you better watch yourself eating some of that dark chocolate with countless antioxidants and serotonin-boosting goodness.
And ps FDA, if someone is allergic to dairy, that person already knows to look for chocolate that is NOT manufactured in a facility that also makes dairy products because of cross-contamination issues. Focus on the real issues here. America is getting fatter and sicker starting at younger and younger ages mainly because of the food YOU approve. That your organization deems safe. That is allowed to be advertised. That invades Saturday morning cartoons. Shame on you.
Now if you excuse me, I'll take my chances on a couple squares of delicious, antioxidant-loaded, disease-fighting dark chocolate.
