Veggies and breakfast go together like peanut butter and jelly. Like Pure Barre and "the shake." Like a little lift to the burn. Adding vegetables to your breakfast is a no brainer. It's like starting your day with exercise... It simply sets you on the right track for the rest of your day. And it's so easy no matter what you like for breakfast even if it's a big fat nothing.
Let me show you how:
- Zoats: Mmm, zoats. Just like with zoodles, zucchini makes everything better and healthier. By bulking up your oats with this nearly calorie-less veggie goodness, you're adding filling, digestion-friendly fiber as well as potassium, vitamin C, vitamin A, folate, manganese, magnesium and even protein. Just grate a small zucchini in your oatmeal and eat as you usually would. Plus, if you're super busy every morning and think you don't have time to make anything, this is a great option for overnight oats where you make them the night before by throwing the ingredients in a jar. No excuses.
- Green Smoothies: You know this had to make the list! This is the best way to start your day in my opinion. It's great to break your fast upon waking with easily digestible, blended fruits, veggies and protein to give you energy that fuels your day. Just go easy on the fruits... a balanced green smoothie should have a higher veggie to fruit ratio to keep blood sugar levels in check and to help with satiety. Try this one.
- Green juice: Not a fan of breakfast? Then drink your greens. But, make sure to chew as you drink (seriously!) to get your digestive juices flowing, preparing your stomach for the incoming liquid sunshine to avoid bloating and a tummy ache. As with the green smoothies, look for a green juice that's heavy on the veggies with just a small bit of green apple or lemon to cut through the green taste. Your cells will be buzzing! If you don't have a juicer and find juices to be too expensive, think of getting powdered greens to add to your water. Just shake and go. My favorite is by Aloha.
