Did you know that our skin completely rebuilds itself every 27 days? How amazing is that?! You could literally start your “healthy-skin” diet right now, and by the end of next month, see incredibly noticeable differences! Wowza! And, I have just the thing to help you sparkle, shine and glow.
Well, at least glow. Did you know I found Kimberly Snyder when I was desperate? It’s true. I had adult acne. I’m talking jawline, cheeks, upper neck. IT.WAS.AWFUL. I happened to be in Target when I stumbled upon her book, The Beauty Detox Solution. I leafed through it quickly (my son was with me and only around 3 at the time) and knew I had to get it. I was desperate to try anything to heal my skin. All of this was on the heels of me watching Food, Inc., so I had already stopped eating animals but gluten and dairy were still on the menu. I remember updating my Facebook status with a picture of the book, stating I felt sorry for my husband because my diet was about to get even crazier. (The SAD – Standard American Diet – was our norm so that was total loony toons.)
Fast forward to today, and I am still eating this way. No apologies. It makes me feel my best. It makes me feel happy for taking care of myself so I’ll be around for my kids. It makes me feel happy so I can have energy to play with them. It makes me feel happy because it’s chock full of “good mood foods.” It’s science.
Since then, I’ve bought every one of Kimberly’s books – The Beauty Detox Power, The Beauty Detox Foods, Radical Beauty and most recently, Recipes for your Perfectly Imperfect Life. My Beauty Detox book is so worn and stained because I still use it 8 years later nearly daily – it’s that good. And, I’m pretty sure it’s going to be like that with the new one too. Perfectly Imperfect Life is full of feel good stories. It’s about living life well with no filter needed. Being authentic. Feeling free to be yourself, flaws and all. It’s brilliant, and the recipes are easy and drool worthy. Just take a look at this:

Now, here’s the new recipe I’m sharing with you today. It’s the no-filter-needed Selfie Smoothie. It’s loaded with beauty fats from the avocado, collagen-restoring Vitamin C from the mango and blood-purifying turmeric. And, it’s no doubt delicious. The addition of vanilla makes it taste like a decadent vanilla pudding. I’m totally topping mine with cacao nibs next time for a little “treat-yo-self” afternoon snack, which is the perfect time of day to enjoy this beauty. As always, the GGS (Kimberly’s glowing green smoothie) is best to have in the morning as your first meal of the day to really give you a hit of energy and a beautiful foundation for starting the day.

from Recipes for Your Perfectly Imperfect Life by Kimberly Snyder
2 cups coconut water
1 ¾ cup fresh or frozen mango chunks
½ ripe avocado, pitted
1 tablespoon chia gel (combine 1/3 cup chia seeds with 2 cups filtered water and let sit for at least 20 minutes, then stir. This makes extra, save the rest for future smoothies!)
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon ground turmeric (I LOVE this one)
1 tablespoon fresh mint leaves
pinch of sea salt (really makes flavor POP)
Combine all ingredients in a blender (I have this one!) starting on low speed then gradually increasing the speed to high. Blend until smooth. Enjoy!
